Album: It's Christmas
Artist: Mandisa
I was saddened to hear the news. After Mandisa left this earth to be with Jesus, I wanted to remember her work and music. So, I purchased two of her albums - her first debut "True Beauty," and Christmas album, "It's Christmas." It's Christmas is her only full-length holiday album. I also plan on collecting the rest of her albums, as well, as her books. I'm still sad that she's no longer here to continue her beautiful journey with us, but I know she's in a wonderful place (she passed of natural causes). This Christmas, I wanted to make a post today in dedication to her. She's greatly missed by not only me, but many others.
It's Christmas has twelve songs produced by Brown Bannister (Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Jeremy Camp). It also has two appearances with Michael W. Smith and Matthew West. The album itself has a mix of classic Christmas songs with more modern tunes. After listening to the album both on my computer and in the car, I can state that it's become one of my favorite Christmas cd's. She ultimately took contemporary gospel and put it together with pop. It's got a cheerful vibe, along with Mandisa's powerful vocals in singing the lyrics. I've always loved her voice, it's strong and commanding.
While I enjoyed all the songs, there were a few that stood out to me. "Somebody's Angel" is a lovely song with a touching story within the lyrics. And I really like Mandisa's rendition of "Feliz Navada/Joy To The World" - there's a fun, upbeat tune throughout. "Christmas Makes Me Cry" with Matthew West is a sweet, melodic track that spurs your emotions. "What Child Is This" is probably my favorite song off of this album, because of how it uplifts the heart. I love it. The album ends with the song, "Children, Go Where I Send Thee" - which has a gospel theme. Just a great way to end this Christmas album. Good collection.
I highly recommend It's Christmas by Mandisa for anyone that wants new holiday music. Especially, if you enjoy both pop and contemporary gospel. I'm so glad I ordered it myself, so that Mandisa will forever live on in my soul. She made a real difference in my life with her music, and I really liked her album, "Overcomer." I may not have personally known her, but her work inspired me in my walk with Christ. And I'll forever be thankful for the magic she brought to this world with her music. Plus, I'm sure her songs will continue to move me to worship my Creator. I would just really like to say, thank you so much, Mandisa. 💓

Great review! I first heard a song by Jordan Feliz featuring her and Jonathan Traylor while I was going through a time of discouragement. "Jesus Is Coming Back" is still one of my go-to songs. Loved her upbeat and encouraging spirit.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mom! Me, too! She was such an inspiration.
